HMRC have announced their plans to make it easier for charities and sports clubs to claim gift aid repayments. Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs department are writing to over 100,000 charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCS) to inform them that, from April, they will be able to use a new online system to make gift aid repayment claims.
The new service is set to be launched on April 22nd and is being introduced as a direct response to feedback HMRC have received from charities. Many charities and CASCs have expressed the difficulties and frustration many of them experience when making claims because of the amount of paperwork involved and the time it takes for a claim to be processed. By using the online service charities and CASCs will be able to make claims more quickly and without the need to pay for postage.
April will also see the introduction of the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme (GASDS). This scheme is designed to allow charities and CASCs to claim top-up payments on donations of £20 or less without the need for a Gift Aid declaration from those making the donations.
