What are Adoption Allowances?

In some circumstances, when you adopt a child a financial allowance may be awarded by the local authority or the adoption agency.

This Adoption Allowance is intended to contribute to the child’s welfare and upbringing, and may be made in addition to the usual Child Benefit payments. Adoption Allowances count as non-taxable income.
